Review: Just Great Wine Lavina Tempranillo 2011

I was sent a lovely bottle of red wine Lavina Tempranillo 2011 from Just Great Wine, I couldn’t wait to taste it and I will tell you why. 20120510-185125.jpg

I must admit I usually drink white wine and it has been a long time since I had a glass of red wine. I quite liked the look of the bottle, nice and neat, and I loved the smell of the wine as soon as I opened the bottle. I like Merlot, but I’ve never had Tempranillo before, so I decided to do a little research before enjoying it.

I found out that Tempranillo is considered Spain’s noble grape and literally translates to ‘little early one’, referring to its brief growing season. As it is a young wine, it should be decanted for several hours before enjoying.

Once the wine was decanted, it was ready to be tasted! I wasn’t too sure what to expect, but I wasn’t disappointed. Lavina 2011 is a lovely medium bodied wine, deep cherry red in colour, beautiful blend of fruity berries with hints of blackcurrant. It has soft tannins, so it is just how I like my wine, rich in taste, but not overpowering.

I really enjoyed Lavina Red and I found out that it is also available in White and Rose. I look forward to trying them and comparing the tastes and flavours!
