Daddies Day Dream for X Factor Victory

UK fathers choose reality TV stardom for children

‘Gift of the gab’ more important than academia

Over half of the UK’s dads would rather see their children find fame and fortune by winning a reality TV show, than see them pursue academia and traditional sought-after careers.

According to the poll of over 1,000 fathers across the UK, a staggering 51 per cent said they would prefer to see their children achieve celebrity by being crowned the winner of X Factor, The Voice or Big Brother, rather than becoming a doctor, lawyer or even representing their nation at sport!

The findings, conducted by vision correction specialist, Ultralase, also revealed fathers hold high hopes of stardom for their sons – 1 in 3 wish to see their male offspring become or marry someone famous OVER having a job they enjoy.

Whilst the advantages of celebrity and fame for their children appears to be top of dad’s agenda, 1 in 4 fathers believe a strong personality, or ‘gift of the gab’, provides the best future prospects over academic excellence, whatever their child’s career choice.

When it comes to favoured professions for their children, a career in sales is not top of dad’s wish list. Only 7 per cent of fathers would like to see their son or daughter become a salesman or saleswomen, whilst not surprisingly, teaching came out on top with 34 per cent wanting their children to take up the noble vocation.

TV presenter Jeff Brazier commented on the research: “I have been very fortunate that hard-work and determination have enabled me to find success and fame through various TV shows, however, I actually find these results very surprising. I hope that my children dedicate time to getting a good education, something which I will definitely be encouraging.”

Tony Veverka, Chief Executive at Ultralase, said:  “What is really interesting from our research is that traditional ambitions fathers have for their children appear to be changing. With the instant fame, fortune and glamorous lifestyle associated with winning the X Factor, it is easy to see why more and more fathers want this for their sons and daughters.

“One thing is for certain, no matter what dreams we hold for our children – be it graduating from university, securing that dream job or winning a reality TV show – the sight of your child achieving those aspirations is one of the most precious in a father’s life.”

Hubby dreams that our little boy will become a footballer, he thinks that his passion for football and my Brazilian blood will make our son a great football! However, I’m more down to earth and I would prefer that my children study and go to university!
