Review: Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom Live Show
Last weekend we had the pleasure to go to Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom Live Show at Orchard Theatre in Dartford.
Little man went with his friend and they both had a lot of fun. They were very excited from the moment we sat down and we were waiting for the curtains to open.
Once Ben & Holly’s music started playing, both of them had a big smile on their face and they kept excited throughout the whole live show.
Usually I would post my own photos and videos of the show, as I did on my review of In the Night Garden Live, however there were signs at Orchard Theatre that photos and recording were prohibited.
From the makers of Peppa Pig and the producers of the two hugely successful Peppa Pig theatre tours comes this first ever stage version of the BAFTA award-winning TV animation, Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom.
Currently a top favourite show for pre-schoolers, this charmingly magical animation airs on Nick Jr (since April 2009) and on 5’s Milkshake (since April 2010). Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdomis co-owned by animation studio Astley Baker Davies and has been a hit with audiences and critics alike. The series won a BAFTA award for Best Pre-School Animation in 2009 and a British Animation Award for Best Pre-School Series in 2012.
The Little Kingdom – where everyone is very, very small – is home to Princess Holly and her best friend Ben Elf. Holly is a young fairy princess who is still learning how to do magic properly and sometimes her spells don’t work out quite right. Ben is an Elf. Elves don’t do magic but they are very good at making things. Ben doesn’t have wings like Holly but he flies on the back of Gaston the Ladybird.
In this exciting new musical adventure, Ben and Holly have fun and games helping Gaston clean up his messy cave; they go on a trip to The Big World with tooth-fairy Nanny Plum; and still have time to plan a surprise for King Elf’s birthday party, complete with an unplanned jelly flood.
Packed full of games, songs and laughter, this is an enchanting and magical visit to the Little Kingdom, live on stage for the very first time. This beautiful story of elves, princesses and childhood innocence will delight all the family.
Indeed we were delighted, hubby and I loved the live show just as much as little man and his friend. We were all joining in replying to Ben and Holly’s questions and singing along. It was very interactive and a great afternoon, very enjoyable!
Before the curtains opened, I was wondering what Ben and Holly would look like. I had a fear they wouldn’t look like the characters on TV, however they were spot on. Great production and clever clothing made it feel like we travelled to the Little Kingdom for the duration of the live show.
Once we left Orchard Theatre, little man and his friend kept asking us to go back and see Ben & Holly again. I had to explain that they had to go back to the Little Kingdom, however we would be able to catch up with them on the TV or the next live show!
Overall, Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom Live Show was an unforgettable experience for the whole family. The live show will be on tour on 44 different venues and you can find out more information on Ben & Holly Live website regarding future dates and venues.
