MoneySupermarket Inspect-a-Gadget: Portable DVD Player
MoneySupermarket is running a campaign called “Inspect a Gadget” to find out cheaper holiday gadgets that can live up to their more expensive counterparts. The most popular travel gadgets are tablets, e-readers, MP3 players, portable DVD players and camcorders.
If you have children and enjoy travelling like us, a portable DVD player will be top of our holiday must-have list. Kids get bored easily, so nothing better than stocking up on DVDs to keep them occupied during a long journey, whether you are travelling by car, train or plane.
We tested Currys Essentials Portable DVD Player (RRP £49.99). In the box, we found the DVD player, remote control, mains adaptor, car power adapter, instruction manual and quick start guide. It was really straight forward to start using, we had no problems.
The DVD player is perfect to listen to music, view images and watch DVDs. Little man likes watching cartoons such as Mike the Knight, Bob the Builder, Thomas the Tank Engine, Peppa Pig, etc.
The portable DVD player has a 7” LCD screen which is a great size, not too big and not too small, it fits perfectly at the back of the front seat of the car. It is a lightweight DVD player, thin and stylish, you can use it with headphones if you wish.
It comes with a cute remote control, I must say little man was quite impressed by how little the remote control was, he thought it was a pretend phone instead.
The portable DVD player has a two hour battery life and you can charge in the car, so you can watch one or two DVDs before charging it in the car using the car power adapter provided.
Considering that most UK trips are around 3-4 hours long, the DVD player would last at least half of the journey, which is quite good. You can also charge it indoors using the main charger which comes with the DVD player, there is no need to purchase another charger.
I was pleased to find out that, although it is a budget DVD player, the LCD screen has a non-reflective clarity, which helps reduce screen glare, so the DVD player can be used anywhere, even in the bright sunshine. We will be taking it along to our next beach holiday!
Overall, we are very happy with the DVD player, highly recommended budget travel gadget, it can be used at home, in the car and on holiday. Since we are not going anywhere right now, little man decided to use the DVD player in his bedroom. You can use it all year round and it will definitely provide lots of fun!
The portable DVD player was provided free of charge for review purposes as part of MoneySupermarket’s Inspect-a-Gadget, however the opinions expressed in this review are honest and my own.
