Perfect Family Picnic!
We were blessed with some lovely sunshine this month, I know it seems that summer has been and gone, but we had a gorgeous weather in the first bank holiday in May.
We were so surprised with the beautiful weather, that we woke up and decided to go out to our local park for a family picnic. We were not expecting the weather to be so lovely, so we didn’t plan the picnic in advance and, as a result, we didn’t have anything ready for it.
But not to worry, it is possible to have a perfect family picnic even without much planning, you just need to check what you have in your cupboards and make the most of it. As soon as we had breakfast, I noticed a pizza dough mix that needed using up, lots of different fillings in the fridge and enough ingredients to make some cookies.
I started by making triple chocolate cookies, chocolate dough with white chocolate and milk chocolate pieces, by the time they were ready to come out of the oven, the first batch of homemade mini-pizzas were nearly ready to go in.
I really like making homemade pizzas because you can personalise them how you want them to be, we like thin crust and generous filling, so that’s how I made them, I’ve added some veg to keep them healthy. Little man was happy to help rolling the dough and sprinkling the toppings, so our family fun started even before we hit the park.
In the end we had four different flavours of mini-pizzas by mixing and matching our ingredients: we had cheese and ham; mushroom and ham; red pepper and cheese; and red pepper, mushroom, cheese and ham.
Once we arrived at the park, we had the mini-pizzas with vegetable stick and slices of fruit. Mini-pizzas and finger food are perfect for little hands and for grown-ups too. By having a selection of finger food in our picnic, it means that you can have a little bit of each.
It was a warm day, so we kept ourselves hydrated by drinking plenty of water and juice. When we finished our meal, we had some cookies and they went down well too. It was a nice treat before we went to feed the ducks and have fun in the playground.
It was absolutely priceless seeing how peaceful and content little man was, he was happy to just sit down and enjoy the sunshine. Although when we woke up in the morning, we had no idea that we would be having a family picnic, we ended up having a great day, full of laughter and fun!
I’m glad we decided to make the most of the sunshine and enjoy some family time by having a picnic, we had an unforgettable day out! It shows that we should just go with the flow and enjoy each moment before they are gone!
