Quark by Lake District Dairy Co.
A few weeks ago, I was sent a lovely hamper by Quark to try Lake District Dairy Co. naturally fat free product. Thank you to the recipes enclosed, I made a Moussaka (Recipe) and also a New York Baked Cheesecake (Recipe). They were both very tasty!
I used Lake District Quark original for both recipes, however Quark is also available in different flavours: vanilla and lemon.
Quark is a naturally fat free, spoonable soft cheese, it is a versatile dairy ingredient great for cooking, mixing and baking.
It says: “With its smooth, creamy texture, this spoonable soft cheese is ideal for blending beautifully with other ingredients as well as substituting into both sweet and savoury meals as a tasty healthy alternative to the likes of cream cheese, crème fraiche, mascarpone, ricotta, Greek yogurt, fromage frais, double cream and even soured cream.”
“This natural ‘wonder ingredient’ is packed with impressive nutritional credentials – high in protein, naturally fat free and low in salt and sugar. In fact, it is so striking in its health credentials that those who examine its packaging will quickly notice that The Lake District Dairy Co. Original Quark scores ‘all green’ on its on-pack GDAs (Guideline Daily Amounts).”
Although Quark is low fat, you can even notice it is a low calorie as it has a luscious and creamy taste. I was planning on making pancakes with the lemon flavoured Quark, however I just enjoyed it straight out of the pack as a dessert.
I used the vanilla flavoured Quark to make ice cream. Actually, I think I should called it frozen yogurt as it is simply frozen Quark. I used our ChillFactor Squeeze Cup Slushy Maker to make Quark into ice cream texture and it was delicious – low fat dessert but full of flavour!
They are suggestions on Quark website, such as using Original Quark for reduced fat pasta sauces, creamy reduced fat mash or dollop onto fajitas. You could also use it for cakes, muffins and cheesecakes.
You could use the Lemon and Vanilla flavoured Quark on reduced fat cheesecake, mousse or pavlova, guilt-free baking, perfect for cakes and muffins. You could also spoon it over fruit or mix with granola. For recipes, you can check http://www.lakedistrictquark.co.uk/recipes/default.html
