Sprite Cookery Masterclass with Rachel Allen
A few weeks ago, I was invited for a cookery masterclass with Rachel Allen. Rachel was challenged by Sprite to revisit some of her favourite family recipes and reformulate the ingredients to ensure the dish still tasted delicious — but contained less calories.
The challenge was inspired by Sprite’s recent recipe change — thanks to the addition of stevia extract, a zero-calorie sweetener from natural origins, Sprite now has 30% less sugar and calories per pack, while keeping the same refreshing taste.
Mum of two Rachel rose to the challenge and she invited the nation to join in with getting creative in the kitchen to reduce calories in classic family recipes. I entered the challenge with my Healthy fruity flapjack bites recipe and I was pleased when Rachel selected my recipe as one of her favourite.
We attended a cookery masterclass hosted by Rachel, who demonstrated her own lower calorie meal ideas. We really got stuck in, discovering how to make our own pasta from scratch and use it in a lighter version of the classic favourite, carbonara.
I have never made pasta before, but really enjoyed making it for the first time. I didn’t know it was so easy to make pasta, you just need eggs, flour and a pinch of salt.
Strawberry fool was on the menu for dessert, perfect for whipping up when you’ve got dinner guests who want a summer-friendly pudding with less of the guilt – or just a family who needs feeding!

Thank you Rachel and Sprite for such a fun afternoon, I will be making pasta for my family soon. I had a lovely time and learnt that it is possible to have your cake and eat it! 🙂
