Family Meal at Giraffe Restaurant
A few days ago, we visited our local Giraffe restaurant in Muswell Hill for the first time and the whole family had a great experience. Giraffe is a UK restaurant group with over 40 locations, including Giraffe Burgers & Cocktail and Giraffe Stop.
As soon as we arrived, we noticed the family friendly atmosphere, there was a colouring sheet and crayons waiting at the table for little man, and once we sat down he was given a balloon. There were other kids with balloons too – if you have a child, you will know that balloons and stickers are life-savers when you want some peace and quiet.
Giraffe offers a large selection of freshly cooked food on their dinner menu, so we were spoilt by choice. While we were looking at the menu trying to decide what we would like to try, we ordered our drinks, hubby ordered a Pina Colada while I asked for a Mojito. Little man had a Mango Mama smoothie with mango, strawberry, banana, orange and apple juice. The drinks arrived promptly and we all enjoyed it.
Our friendly waitress asked if we wanted to order little man’s food first, which we did and he asked for Popcorn Chicken & Fries, which was served with Heinz baked beans. Kids meal deal comes with mini main and a drink for £4.95. Little man enjoyed the big chunks of chicken, he ate most of his meal, only leaving behind a few spoons of beans.
Hubby tried Chicken Potstickers (£5.65) for starter, which is fried chicken dumplings with orange, carrot and miso glaze, served with soya chilli sauce. The chicken dumplings were light and not too oily, and were complemented by the sauce on the side.
I had Crunchy Coconut Shrimp (£5.65) which was served with nouc-cham sweet chilli dipping sauce. The prawns were well cooked and seasoned, and the sauce was very tasty, I even asked the waitress to leave it behind for the main course. Both starters had a generous portion and were the right size.
For main course, hubby tried their 21 Day Aged Grilled Sirloin Steak (£15.95) which is a British farm assured beef served with a choice of skin on fries, mash or salad. He went for skin on fries and peppercorn sauce on the side. The sirloin steak was nicely seasoned, the peppercorn sauce was tasty and the garnish salad was well dressed.
I ordered a Simply Grilled Salmon (£13.25) which comes with a pineapple, mango and roasted red pepper salsa on the top, and a choice of skin on fries, mash or salad. I opted for a salad, which arrived with mixed leaves, tomato, carrot and beetroot. I love the explosion of flavours on the plate and how colourful and bright the dish looked, making it very appealing.
I had another cocktail with my main course, the waitress recommended The Raspberry Beret (£6.50) from the Summer menu, which is a delicious combination of cucumber ribbons and raspberry puree with Finlandia vodka, Chambord and pomegranate juice. It was very refreshing!
Once we all finished our meal, we couldn’t resist having a look at their dessert menu. I tried the Lemon Meringue Drizzle Sundae (£5.50) which comes with smashed meringue, Madeira sponge, zesty lemon and elderflower drizzle, broken shortbread, vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Yes, all of that in one glass and what a great combination of flavours and textures.
Hubby ordered Rocky Road Sunday (£5.95) with chocolate and vanilla ice cream, marshmallows, chocolate brownie and warm chocolate sauce. Little man tried Smarty Pants Sundae (£4.75), part of the Summer menu, with two scoops of vanilla ice cream, smarties, jelly tots, mini-marshmallows, chocolate and red berry sauces with a flake. Both hubby and little man really enjoyed their Sundaes, it kept them nice and quiet for a while!
I also had a soya cappuccino (£2.30) while hubby tried a Banoffee Frape (£3.50), ice coffee with fresh banana and butterscotch sauce. Our drinks were tasty and a great ending to a lovely meal.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Giraffe, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the menu had a large selection of items on offer. Our food was well presented on the plate, very tasty and full of flavour. As we usually go out as a family, it was great to see how child-friendly the restaurant was – we had a relaxing evening in a vibrant atmosphere and we would definitely go back to Giraffe again!
