Little man loves the Gruffalo, he has a Trunki Gruffalo Chums: Wash Bag and Wrist Purse that he uses when we travel, and also a Gruffalo Apron that he wears when we are baking. He was delighted when we received The Gruffalo Word Rhyming Game by University Games.

The Gruffalo Word Rhyming Game (RRP £4.99) is a card game featuring all the characters from the children’s favourite story of The Gruffalo. It has been designed to enhance reading, rhyming and colour matching skills, it helps children have fun while picking up the language and rhymes from the story. There are two games in the box, each with its own set of illustrated cards and instructions.

The rhyming game comes with 24 rhyming cards, 6 mouse cards and 2 Gruffalo cards. In the rhyming game, players follow rhyming patterns but have special cards to help them out. Little man is really into rhyming at the moment, so he had a great time trying to match the most rhyming words.

The bonus game called “There is no such thing as a Gruffalo” comes with 21 cards where the characters in the story are collected and the first player to have the set, wins. There are five characters from the story in the same colour to be collected, the Mouse, Fox, Snake, Owl and Squirrel.

The game is suitable for 2 to 4 players, aged 4 and above, and it has been carefully designed so readers and non-readers can play, the cards are colour coded for pre-school children. The rhyming words have the same background colour, making it easier for children that can’t read.

We enjoyed playing both games in The Gruffalo Word Rhyming Game, little man had a big smile on his face whenever he found a rhyming word such as “Cake and Lake”, “Paw and Claw”. The card game comes in a box, making it perfect to keep the cards safe and take the game on holiday.
