Celebrate Oral Health Month with Colgate

Last night I was at the Charlotte St Hotel to attend Colgate’s Oral Health Month roundtable discussion on how to ensure the best oral health for me and my family.

It was a great evening, full of treats and very informative. I had the chance to indulge myself with beauty treatments and cocktails and join Harley Street Nutritionist Nigel Denby, Psychologist Karen Pine, and Oral Health Month’s resident Dentist Simon Khoury for a lively and informal discussion about caring for children’s teeth. 097

During the event, the experts shared advice on Oral Health, from tips on how to encourage children to clean their teeth, to surprising facts on which foods and drinks are best and worst for children’s teeth. I found out that raisins and orange juice are not as healthy as they seem, as they are full of sugar and bad for the teeth.

Luckily little man enjoys brushing his teeth and going to the dentist, but I am aware that not all mums are as lucky as me. Since he tried Colgate’s Kids range, he has been enjoying brushing his teeth even more, so he was pleased when I arrived home with new Colgate toothbrushes and toothpastes.

I thought I would share some tips to help children to keep teeth and gums strong and healthy: Seven Steps to a Bright Smile.

  1. Brush teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, before bed and on one other occasion.
  2. Supervise your child during toothbrushing until they are at least 7 years old.
  3. Just spit after toothbrushing, rinsing washes the fluoride protection away.
  4. Reduce the amount and frequency of sugary foods and drinks.
  5. Wear a mouthguard when playing sports.
  6. If your dentist recommends a fluoride mouthwash, use this at a different time from toothbrushing to increase the protection throughout the day.
  7. Ask your dental professional for further advice.

From the tips above, we already brush our teeth twice a day, mornings and evenings, but I had no idea about just spitting after brushing, we will be trying it from now on. I will be sharing other tips throughout Oral Health Month.
