Fitbug Air Wireless Activity Tracker
I enjoy walking and keeping active, I prefer walking to places instead of getting on a crowded bus. It seems like ages when I shared our Tops Tips to Get Fit and Feel Epic, I still go back to it whenever I need inspiration to keep active.
I was pleased to receive a Fitbug Air, which can be purchased at RRP £49.99 including a full year’s subscription premium coaching, or RRP £24.99 with £2.99 monthly subscription. Fitbug Air is a wireless activity tracker with an online wellness coach, the pack comes with battery, bug strap with clip and a bug holder.
I liked the fact Fitbug Air has Bluetooth technology to sync to my phone in real time through an app, so I can keep track of my activities. It is also possible to sync to a computer if you don’t have a smartphone.
Fitbug Air is more than just a pedometer as it tracks your steps taken, calories burned, distance travelled and minutes of daily activities. I was surprised to see that it recognises when you are exercising and it records aerobic steps, over 100 per minute. Before having a Fitbug Air, I knew I was active, but I have been trying it for the past few weeks, and it has made me more aware of my aerobic steps.
Fitbug creates personalised achievable weekly targets and on-going nutritional advice. When you start using Fitbug Air, the first week is considered your baseline week, so you should do everything as usual to get an idea of your normal activity and nutritional routine. On the second week, you are then given aerobic targets and total steps targets, which increase weekly based on your activities. It is easy to recognise whether you have reached your targets as it is colour coded.
Grey days are when you haven’t met the total steps target or aerobic steps target, green days are when you have met only the total steps target, blue days are when you have met only the aerobic steps and pink days are when you have exceeded both targets, total daily steps and aerobic steps.
As you can see by one of my weeks, I walk quite a lot, from 9k to 29k steps daily, my overall daily steps are high, but my aerobic steps vary from 4k to 24k. That Thursday, when I reached my record of 29,353 steps I went to double Zumba classes, that’s why both my aerobic and daily steps are so high.
Fitbug has an online member’s area with games, recipes and exercise plans which allows users to log their food and additional exercise to ensure they are meeting their personal goals. It also send you a Bugzine, newsletter by email with tips, recipes and inspiration to keep you motivated.
I have been enjoying using Fitbug Air over the past couple of months, it has made me more aware of my activities and it is quite exciting each week when you receive your new targets. Since I started using Fitbug, I noticed that a little walk on my lunch break could increase both my total and aerobic steps by 1,000 to 2,000 steps, and every little helps, from getting off one stop earlier on the underground to taking the steps instead of using the lift.
I have made a conscious decision to walk more and be more active to reach my targets. However I also noticed that Fitbug will keep increasing my targets if I keep walking, up to a point that I can’t reach them, you can see that I have barely any pink days in September as the targets got so high. However the targets get lower and more achievable in the following week if I haven’t been able to reach them, so it is quite clever the way Fitbug works the targets.
Overall, I have found Fitbug Air very useful to keep track of my activities. For more information, please check https://www.fitbug.com.
