I can’t believe it’s already October, so it will be Halloween soon! We enjoy going out to trick or treat and also carving pumpkins. Little man enjoyed the new Spookley The Square Pumpkin DVD, which was out on Monday 30th October.
Spookley The Square Pumpkin is an animated children’s tale. When Spookley the pumpkin takes shape he realises he’s a little different from the other pumpkins – he’s square. All the other pumpkins shun him, but thanks to friendly spiders, Spookley soon realises there are advantages to being square rather than round, especially when there’s a storm coming.
In a world where the only good pumpkins are round, Spookley is teased because of his square shape. Shunned by the other pumpkins, Spookley is befriended by Edgar, Allan, and Poe, three hilarious spiders, who convince him that, square or not, he has a right to be the Pick of the Patch.
But Big Tom and Little Tom, the pumpkin bullies of the patch, continue to tease and taunt Spookley. Encouraged by kindly Jack Scarecrow and his bat sidekicks, Boris and Bella, Spookley tries his best, but he isn’t sure he has what it takes until a mighty storm threatens Holiday Hill Farm. When the storm blows the round pumpkins across the patch toward the raging river, Spookley realizes it is up to him and his square shape to save the day.
Little ones often feel left out if there are different to their friends, so it is refreshing to see a character which is different from others, so children can identify with Spookley and what he goes through as a square pumpkin.
