Have You Imagined Life Without Internet?
Right now, I am writing this blog post on my computer, using the internet to do some background research and checking my emails at the same time, wondering how life would be without internet?
Until I was around 12 years old, I didn’t have much contact with a computer, only at computer lessons at school where we had to do some interesting shapes using MS-DOS commands. I am not sure why we were thought that at school, I don’t even know if it still exists as I haven’t used it since then, but that’s my first recollection of typing away on a keyboard.
From then, I started using the computer to do some research for my school homework and also to chat with my friends. I’ve always liked surfing the net, and I would spend hours researching on the same topic just so I could spend a little more time on the computer.
When I was a teenager, a friend of mine at school told me about this program that you could use to download songs from the internet. As I love songs, I started using it to get hold of my favourite tunes, but I had no idea about copyright at the time and that it was considered illegal downloading. According to a survey, 37% of people in the North East admit to downloading music, films, software and e-books for free illegally. I have downloaded a few songs when I was younger, but never a movie as my internet connection was very slow at the time.
How would life be without internet? What if I never had access to a computer? As a start, I wouldn’t be writing this post and you wouldn’t be able to read it. I wouldn’t find out about social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, and I wouldn’t be able to watch videos on YouTube. What would I miss the most? That’s a difficult question as I am so used to finding out everything within a few minutes, thanks to instant online searches.
A couple of days ago, I read an interesting article on my way to work saying that we are impatient thanks to faster broadband, instant searches and immediate downloads. I have to agree with the results that highlighted we are not used to waiting anymore as we expect everything to be done instantly. Perhaps I would be more patient with I had no internet, but I would rather not find out how different my life would be.
Off I go to search the net…!
PR Collaboration, however the opinions expressed in this post are honest and my own.
