M Kitchen: From Morrisons’ Kitchen to Yours!
I love freshly made food, but I must confess we always have something ready in the freezer for those days when we simply don’t have enough time to cook but we want a proper meal. Saturdays are really busy, so we tend to have something from the freezer for lunch.
Over the weekend, I was invited to visit the M Kitchen cookery bus on tour so I could check out part of the M Kitchen’s latest revamp. I met Neil Nugent’s team and tasted the new and improved M Kitchen range. Samples of the new range were served directly from the M Kitchen cookery bus to the public and I was happy to try some.
Whether you prefer pasta or rice, there is a M Kitchen dish to your taste. I had the chance to try a few lovely dishes including Fragrant Chicken Green Curry (Thai green curry made in England), Macaroni Cheese and Pasta with Sausage.
In 2011 Morrisons launched its M Kitchen range, a range of convenience meals that is named after the real life kitchen that sits at the heart of Morrisons HQ in Bradford. A team of expert chefs, under the guidance of Morrisons executive chef of product development, Neil Nugent, work hard to bring you those tasty meals and sauces that are popped into the trolley.
A hybrid of activity and buzzing with energy, the M Kitchen team is continuously coming up with new ideas for tasty, quality dishes to satisfy all those customers which come through Morrisons’ doors each week.
Now, almost exactly two years on, there are over 450 lines in the M Kitchen range, with a number of new and improved products being unveiled this month. Including four new cuisines: Tex Mex, Italian, Tastes of Home – British classics, and Takeaway – Chinese and Indian.
While I was there, M Kitchen chefs demonstrated how to prepare one of the ready meals from the new range: a Fragrant Chicken Green Curry. The public loved how easy it looked to cook the meal, it was ready within minutes and the dish smelled great.
We have tried Fisherman’s Pie from Tastes of Homes range, featuring comforting taste of great British classics, and it was full of flavour. It is a chunky flaked haddock in a smooth, cheesy sauce, topped with buttery mashed potato and a crunchy mature Cheddar crumb.
We have also tried Chicken Tikka Masala & Pilau Rice from the Takeaway range, featuring flavoursome Indian and Chinese takeaway meals. The pieces of chargrilled marinated chicken breast in a spiced tomato sauce with cream, coriander and garam masala, served with pilau rice, was seasoned to perfection.
Overall, I am very impressed with M Kitchen meals, they are full of flavour and taste just like homemade meals. We will be definitely picking up some more on our next grocery shopping!
The M Kitchen Cookery Bus is coming this weekend to Chamberlain Square in Birmingham on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th October, and to St Enoch Square in Glasgow on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th October.
