Get Your Child Saving with iChild Saving Superstar Activities
I have mentioned several times the importance of saving, including our Pocket Money Tales, and how we are teaching little man the Art of Saving. We are trying to show him how powerful savings can be and that it is worth sacrificing a purchase today for an even bigger purchase tomorrow.
iChild has a range of downloadable, printable activities to help further children’s education, including ‘Saving Superstar’ packs, created in partnership with F&C Investments. We were sent worksheets and activities, so we could try F&C Saving Superstar education programme.
In a nutshell, they’re designed to help educate children about financial management in a way that’s appropriate to their age group, and above all fun. The packs are suitable for children aged 0-5, (EYFS), 5-7 years (KS1) and 7-11 years (KS2).
So older children, might get involved in a Monopoly-style game in which they manage a household budget with their ‘wages’ while younger children of five and below might find themselves being helped to identify various coins and begin to do basic financial arithmetic.
All of these activities lead up to children being awarded their own ‘Savings Superstar’ certificate, which shows they’re already becoming savvy when it comes to saving. I agree that financial education is so important, but because it does not have a structured place in the curriculum at the moment, it is so often left to chance.
iChild believes that children’s monetary education should start sooner rather than later, and if they have a little giggle along the way, so much the better – I couldn’t agree more! Little man has just started school, it was quite emotional helping him with his first homework. He is very into learning at the moment, we want him to enjoy learning, so he keeps his interest and learns even more as a result.
The iChild F&C Saving Superstar education programme are based on daily activities, such as looking at money and recognising different coins, learning what you can buy, simple counting, going to the supermarket, shopping, looking after your money, money boxes and saving. There are 10 activities per age group, and the resources tie in with the National Curriculum. There is also a board game, rewards chart so you can monitor your child’s progress as you go along, and certificate for completing the Saving Superstar programme.
I must I am very impressed with the wide range of activities provided by iChild, they deal with daily tasks in a fun and enjoyable way. Little man is learning essential saving and financial management skills without realising.
The resources are free to be downloaded from the website, but you can also become a premium member for £79 a year. For more information, please check http://www.ichild.co.uk/tags/browse/295/F&C-Saving-Superstar
