Honeywell evohome: Smart Zoning System to Reduce Energy Bills
Just before we went away on holiday, I received a letter from our energy supplier saying that prices are going up next month. I knew they would contact us sooner or later as energy prices have been discussed lately on the news and also on social media channels.
A couple of weeks ago, I was introduced to evohome developed by Honeywell, the heating control specialist. evohome is a new way of heating the home through a new smart zoning system, which controls every room individually to reduce heating energy bills. It sounds complicated, but it is quite easy to control each room using the touch screen device or remotely through an easy-to-use mobile app. Honeywell says: “In the same way you don’t only have one light switch for your entire house, we believe you shouldn’t control your heating with one single switch.” – and I couldn’t agree more!
Our house is a great example of a household that could benefit from evohome smart zoning. Our current Honeywell thermostat is located in the corridor and we usually set it up at 21C, however our bedroom is much warmer than little man’s bedroom. His bedroom gets little sunshine throughout the day, so the temperature is substantially lower than our bedroom. On the other hand, the sun shines through our window first thing in the morning making it warmer than the rest of the house.
At the moment, we can’t control the temperature of each room, however through evohome, we could create up to 12 zones in our home that can be controlled individually for maximised comfort and energy. evohome has been designed to bring the perfect balance of comfort, control and energy savings of up to 40% on heating. We wouldn’t need 12 zones, but I would probably separate the house into 5 main zones: little man’s bedroom, our bedroom, kitchen, corridor and living room.
We are a busy family, so having a mobile app to control our home’s heating remotely would be very convenient, I could easily turn down the heating if I rush to get out of the house and forget to switch it off. In case little man gets home earlier than expected, I could adjust the timer and set it to heat up his bedroom accordingly.
Besides, I love the fact that evohome uses smart technology, so it can detect when a window is left open. After a demonstration of evohome, I am now convinced that’s just what we need in our household to make sure we are comfortable and warm, while saving energy, what more could I ask for?!
