How Active are UK Kids? and Competition to Win a Year’s Supply of Ribena Plus
My best memories of my childhood are of me and my family splashing around in the swimming pool. Brazil is hot all year round, so we would spend most part of the year in the pool, playing and having fun together as a family. I also attended swimming lessons with my brother, so we were quite active when we were young.
Little man and I took part in a research conducted by No Added Sugar Ribena Plus to active families and highlight the importance of play in a child’s day. We tracked our steps with a pedometer for a week in order to find out how active kids in the UK are at the various stages of their development. The research identified age four as best year of childhood, as kids are most active and happiest, as they spend on average 176 minutes per day playing, which is thirty minutes more than any other age group.
Little man is 4 years old and I know very well how much energy he has, he loves playing and running around. The research found that half of parents think that their child is more active that they are day to day, I completely agree as I spend most of the day sitting at my desk at work. I try and walk as much as I can by getting off a station earlier and walking on my lunch break, but little man is more active than me generally.
Although little man is quite active and we try and be active together as a family as much as possible, we have recently shared Simple Pleasures in Life: Family Fun Day at the Park, I don’t think he is as active as I was when I was a child. The research highlighted that one in five parents think that their children are more active than they were at that age. We are always looking for new ways to be active together while having fun and building memories.
