Aldi Christmas Cheese and Drinks Matching

Christmas is my favourite part of the year, I love spending Christmas with my family and enjoying good food and wine with our loved ones. What more could I ask for?
Aldi has recently teamed up with Master of Wine Sarah Jane Evans to create some delicious drinks and cheese matches such as Fletcher’s Fine Ruby Port NV and Wensleydale with Cranberries Truckle – perfect for entertaining this festive season.
We were sent a bottle of the Exquisite Collection Limoux Chardonnay 2012 to be matched with Specially Selected Cheddar with garlic and herbs. The Exquisite Collection, carefully selected to represent the distinctive styles of the best wine regions around the globe, The Exquisite Collection by Aldi offers customers the chance to enjoy elegant and beautifully balanced premium wines without breaking the bank.
This barrel fermented Chardonnay has been made by Jean-Claude Mas, one of the most highly regarded winemakers in the Languedoc. It is rich, full-bodied and complex, with a delicious apple peel acidity that cuts through the intense stone fruit and buttery oak flavours.
Cheddar is a very versatile cheese: the apple peal freshness of the Chardonnay brings out the crunch in the Cheddar. Chardonnay would also go well with the turkey, so it can be enjoyed throughout the Christmas meal. The wine is refreshing and easy drinking, perfectly matched with the Cheddar with garlic and herbs.
We were also sent Caversham Cream Sherry to be matched with Specially Selected half Moon Stilton. Port is the traditional favourite with Stilton but this year, why not try a sweet Sherry, served cool instead? It is like enjoying a handful of dates and raisins with the bold, full flavoured cheese.
Caversham Cream Sherry is a smooth sweet Sherry with a long sustained finish with aromas of molasses and dried fruits. It is rich, silky and beautifully crafted with complex flavours of nuts, raisins and caramel. Although I am not a sherry drinker, I enjoyed trying the sweetness of Carversham Cream Sherry with the creaminess and flavours of the blue cheese.
Caversham Cream Sherry is available at RRP £5.25 all year round and the Specially Selected half Moon Stilton is available at RRP £3.49 as a Special buy and available in the run up to Christmas.
Thanks to Aldi and Master of Wine Sarah Jane Evans, I am now feeling all Christmassy and ready to enjoy lots of wine and cheese over the festive period.
