I love Italian food, especially freshly made pasta with homemade sauce, yummy! We have recently tried Delicatezza, The Italian Pantry, a family-run producer and importer of fine Italian foods and we were very impressed with the great tasty and flavours of their products.
Delicatezza has a wide selection of high quality Italian products on their website, the Freshly Made section offers a range of handmade filled pastas and fresh egg pasta, pre-prepared meals, fresh sauces, award-winning cannoli, mozzarellas and sausages. They also have a Pantry section featuring a hand-picked selection of premium delicatessen items, from a superlative truffle range through to bakery, a wide range of antipasti and drinks.
We had the opportunity of trying some products from the Freshly Made section, we ordered Tortelloni, delicious handmade filled pasta available in a variety of fillings, such as four cheese, butternut squash, artichokes and grana padano, and the classic ricotta and spinach. We wanted to try something different, so we went for Braised Beef Tortelloni.
The Braised Beef Tortelloni was served with fresh pasta sauce from Delicatezza, Pomodoro with a touch of Pesto Genovese, topped with Taralluci cheese, fresh small mozzarella shaped into the size of small doughnuts. The pasta was very tasty and the sauces complemented the pasta very well.
The taralluci cheese was lovely with the tortelloni, the whole family enjoyed it. Hubby and I agree that the tortelloni was one of the best we have ever tried, the filling was flavoursome and well seasoned.
We also tried one of Delicatezza’s Fresh Egg Pasta made with free-range eggs: Taglioni Paglia e Fieno, made with a combination of yellow and green tagliolini. It was enjoyed with Pesto Genovese and Mozzarella. Pesto Genovese is made of crushed garlic, basil and pine nuts blended with olive oil, grana padano and pecorino cheese.
The gorgeous flavour of the fresh egg pasta was brought out by the pesto, hubby mentioned you could really taste the freshness of the pasta.
Hubby really likes gnocchi, so we order Potato Gnocchi, Italian dumplings made from potato. We had the gnocchi with fresh Pomodoro sauce and pieces of Lucanica in Chilli flavour. Lucanica is one of the award-winning handmade sausages offered by Delicatezza, made from 100% British meat.
The gnocchi was as good as we expected, with a lovely texture, while the Lucanica was full of flavour.
We ordered another type of handmade sausage, Napoli in Pepper flavour and it was very tasty. Napoli are 100% British pork sausage made with natural casing and available with a wide variety of flavours.
Delicatezza also offers restaurant quality classic Italian meals, such as lasagne, cannelloni and gnocchi. We tried Ricotta and Spinach Cannelloni with Bechamel Sauce. The cannelloni was well seasoned while the béchamel sauce was creamy and tasty.
To finish off our Italian meal, we had handmade Cannoli, luxuriously filled with creamy sheep milk ricotta and finished with chocolate shavings. Not only they look gorgeous, they are so delicious, a great finish to a lovely meal.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed trying Delicatezza, their products are made with high quality ingredients and, as a result, they are full of flavour and taste very fresh. The whole family really enjoyed the different flavours and textures.
