Dry January with BRITA Boost: Mixology Mocktail Masterclass
As you are aware, I am giving up alcohol this month and keeping hydrated with BRITA filtered water as part of BRITA Boost Challenge. I can’t believe the first half of the month is already over, I must say the challenge has been easier than I imagined thanks to BRITA Hydration Hamper, containing essential BRITA filter products, pampering treats and motivational products.
As highlighted in the previous blog post, most people choose to have a drink for one of five key reasons, namely taste, socialising, confidence boost, relaxing and for the buzz. Throughout the month, BRITA is providing us with alternative experiences to keep us motivated with weekly activities that combat the reasons that we would normally drink alcohol.
The first activity of BRITA Boost Challenge was Mixology Mocktail Masterclass, focusing on TASTE. One of the top five reasons people drink is because of the taste of alcohol, I must say that I really enjoy the taste of cocktails, especially fruity ones as Mojito and Pina Colada, and also the crispy taste of a glass of white wine.
Last Friday, my mum and I were invited to a Mixology Masterclass on the date most people give up their New Year Resolutions, 10th January. In the evening, an expert mixologist taught us how to make exclusively BRITA mocktails, we had the chance to have fun and create tasty mocktails using BRITA filtered water to ensure they taste the best they can.
We started the evening by creating a warm Hot Toddy Mocktail, by squeezing a lemon wedge into a glass and dropping the wedge in, then adding cloves, ginger, honey, cinnamon stick and hot BRITA filtered water.
The drink was stirred until the honey dissolved and enjoyed warm, such a comforting drink, perfect for a cosy night in!
We then learnt how to make Elderflower Julep Mocktail, by adding the juice of a wedge of a lemon, handful of mint leaves, elderflower cordial, apple juice, BRITA filtered water and crushed ice.
The mocktail was garnish with a mint spring and two straws, very refreshing and fruity! Elderflower Julep Mocktail was my mum’s favourite drink.
Our next task was to make Lavender Sour Mocktail with a pinch of dried lavender, coconut sugar syrup, maple syrup, lemon juice and BRITA filtered water, shaken with lots of ice. Once it was strained into a short tumbler, we drizzled lavender syrup, creating a beautiful purple cocktail.
Lavender Sour was my favourite as I really like coconut, what a gorgeous and tasty mocktail! I am seriously considering swapping Pina Colada for Lavender Sour Mocktail once Dry January has ended.
Our final drink was Pink Champagne Mocktail by adding sugar and BRITA filtered water to a jug, stirring until the sugar dissolved. We then added grapefruit juice, orange juice, grenadine, ginger beer and lots of ice. It was served in champagne flutes and it tasted like fruity bubbly, yum!
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the Mixology Masterclass, my mum and I loved learning how to mix ingredients to make tasty alcohol-free drinks. At the end of the evening, we were given a mocktail making kit and recipes to take home and practice our skills. Who knew you could make so many flavoursome non-alcoholic cocktails? We both agree that the mocktails tasted great and we didn’t miss the taste of alcohol in any of them.
Many thanks to BRITA for inspiring us to find tasty alternatives to booze and highlighting the different options of alcohol-free tasty drinks, which can be enjoyed on their own or to complement a meal.
I attended the event as part of BRITA Boost Challenge, however the opinions expressed in this post are honest and my own.
