Build Early Reading Skills with LeapFrog Read With Me Scout
Little man loves reading stories and, as a parent, I believe it is essential to encourage him to read by making reading fun and exciting. We have a large collection of books and we are constantly looking for new ways of keeping little man entertained while learning new skills.
LeapFrog has a wide range of educational products that make learning fun. Little man was introduced to LeapFrog Tag Junior a couple of years ago, lately he is having fun writing with LeapFrog Scribble and Write.
We have recently come across LeapFrog Read With Me Scout, a cuddly companion that makes reading interactive and enjoyable. Scout is a playful toy pup that reads and asks questions, and who comes with five illustrated board books in a range of subjects.
There is a Pattern book ‘Let’s go camping!’ to learn with rhymes, refrains, and repetition to predict what comes next; in the Narrative book ‘Let’s find Scout’s toy!’ kids learn how stories are put together with characters, settings and sequence of events.
In the Concept book ‘Let’s have a party!’, you can explore concepts like colours to label and classify new information, in the Rhyming Book ‘Let’s cheer up Eli!’ you learn about the sounds of language and build phonological awareness, and in the Learn-about book ‘Let’s learn about the weather’ kids learn about the world through reading and see how print carries meaning.
Scout engages children by asking questions throughout the stories in these books to help build comprehension skills. Little man was very impressed with the range of questions, there are over 70 comprehension questions, he even asked me how Scout could hear him if he was not a real puppy.
Read with me Scout is interactive and innovative, great to build a foundation for reading comprehension skills and vocabulary through read-aloud activities. Little man really enjoyed listening to Scout reading the stories, and patting him at the same time.
I really like the fact that Scout features five interactive touch points, responding to every pet, pat, hug and kiss. It is simple and easy to use, you simply need to press a button on Scout’s collar to choose a story book and start reading, pat his head to turn the page. If you press Scout’s right paw, you can hear happy learning songs, and the left paw is the friendly paw, each time you press, Scout responds with a different sentence.
Scout also responds when you kiss his cheek and pat his back. There is also a Sleepy Time Mode to listen to a book and lullabies, great to unwind and relax before bedtime.
Read with me Scout is an educational and fun toy with interactive stories, it is very sweet how it responds and interacts with children, making learning engaging and enjoyable. There is also another version, a purple puppy, Read with me Violet, ideal for young girls.
Read With Me Scout and Read With Me Violet (RRP £29.99, for children 2 to 5 years old) are available online and at major retailers. For more information, visit http://leapfrogstore.co.uk/
