Indoor Family Fun: Letter Scramble

The weather has been rather unpredictable lately, raining most of the time, even when it is meant to be sunny according to the weather forecast. We enjoy going out as a family and having a great time together, but we also enjoy spending quality time at home, using whatever we can find to have fun.

Nothing like creating fun indoor games, they are perfect for raining days and for those days you would rather spend at home. You don’t need much for creating games, just have a look around and pick up any materials you can find.

Little man is learning to read, he is really into letters and making words. One of his favourite games is creating words, so we made our own Letter Scramble. We had lots of fun making and playing the game.

In order to make your own Letter Scramble, you will need paper or cardboard box, pens, glitter glue and a pair of scissors.

You can be as creative as you wish, writing down the letters in different colours, etc.

Cut Out Scramble Cards

We used a curly shaped pair of scissors to make scramble cards with funky designs. You can use standard scissors if you prefer.

We then wrote one letter per card using a pen.

We then used glitter glue to add a bit of sparkle to the letters.

Once our scramble cards were dry, we had a great time unscrambling the letters and putting words together.

We made our fun game into an educational game by practing phonics and reading the words out loud while we were playing the game.

Lisa Brown, Center Parcs’ Games Guru shared several great ideas to have fun at home, and our favourite is:

‘An empty cereal box, once opened up, makes a great surface to draw your board onto. Try adding different textures to the board to give it a 3D feel – you could even make your own Center Parcs game, using bubble wrap to create the iconic dome and painting some cotton wool balls for trees!’

We enjoy crafting and using empty cereal boxes and any box we can find around the house. Actually I should say that we enjoy anything to do with cutting, sticking and using glitter glue.

‘This is my entry to the Center Parcs and Tots 100 February challenge. If I’m chosen, I would like to visit Elveden Forest’
