Big Plans for Little Boys
Growing up, we probably all remember bedroom decoration which consisted of fading posters torn out of magazines, a few Airfix model aircraft scattered around the place and some stickers randomly placed all over a desk that looked like it had been reclaimed from Victorian Times.

Nowadays kids’ expectations are so much higher – and sophisticated – than they used to be, and this seems to apply equally to both genders. Their bedroom is now their kingdom, and no short cuts will do!
When it comes to decorating your child’s room the myriad of choice can be overwhelming. You need to make decisions about the type of wallpaper you need, the paint, storage space, accessories…and so on. So it was an absolute godsend when a friend of mine told me about the website http://www.gltc.co.uk/
Rather than spend hours surfing loads of different websites and getting yourself in a complete cyberspace muddle, or, worse still, pounding the High Street or some soulless retail park in a vain attempt at trying to decide what you’re looking for, it’s great to be able to hop onto a website like GLTC and find everything all in one place.
Before you start your spending spree I would recommend taking a step back and thinking about what you want to achieve in decorating your child’s bedroom. First things first, the end result should reflect your child’s personality and tastes. If your son, for example, is into Sci-Fi, giving him a basketball theme wouldn’t have him jumping through hoops, let alone shooting them.
Furniture size is another consideration; it should be age appropriate. You don’t want the wardrobes to seem like skyscrapers, do you..? Unless Manhattan is the backdrop of choice, that is. Also, you don’t want to be changing the décor on an annual basis so try and find ways in which things can be changed without the need of a complete makeover. Removable objects like rugs and pictures can be easily replaced, unlike stickers and stencils, if you feel the room needs to made age relevant.
Storage space is a huge factor. Children and clutter go hand-in-hand, so, unless your child is an absolute angel when it comes to tidying up, you need to have accessible places where all their things can go. If done well, it is possible to combine fun with practicality – the Holy Grail of decorating a child’s bedroom.
Now that the Great Little Trading Co. has come to the rescue my mind has become total uncluttered and I can now enjoy being creative. All those things I’d put to the back of my head can now be tackled head on and I cannot wait to get started.
