Cup the Cupet Dog: Cube-Shaped Pet from Flair

Little man has been asking for a dog for some time, however we can’t have one just yet. Hopefully we will be able to get one when we move to a bigger house. In the meanwhile, he is playing with a virtual pet, meet Cup the Cupet Dog.

Cupets (RRP £6.99) is an abbreviation of cube-shaped pets from Flair, they are collectible figures that can be used with a smart device. There are 12 cupets in total and they are recommended for children over 3 years old.

Cupets have a cute face on one side, code to unlock on the other side and a QR code on top. You can use a free downloadable app, available on Android and iOS, to unlock an augmented reality (AR) version of the Cupet.

You can also play with the app without buying a cupet, but you can’t use augmented reality. Little man was so excited when he scanned the QR code and brought the cupet to life for the first time by using augmented reality. He thought it was magical being able to see and play with Cup on the screen.

Cupets are similar Tamagotchi from the 90s, but they can do so much more. Apart from looking after you cupet by feeding, cleaning and playing with him, you can also customise with accessories and play games with the app. The more you look after him, the more points you earn, unlocking new levels.

Keep the Cupet in good health so they perform well in a series of four mini games. You need coins to feed them and to buy any medicine, and you can earn coins by looking after your pet and playing the games. We still haven’t figured out how much food the Cupet needs, it seems to be constantly hungry, no matter how much food it has.

You can also earn achievements, you get 2000 coins when you unlock a cupet for the first time, and other achievements such as by cuddling, petting, tickling and cleaning up your cupet.

You can also buy coins using the app, and unfortunately I couldn’t find a setting to switch off purchases (not sure it exists), so I’m hoping little man won’t end up buying loads of coins when I’m not looking.

Apart from that, we really like playing with the Cupet. I’m saying we, because I also like playing with the games, Cupets Run and Cupets World. I tell little man that I’m helping him earn coins by playing the games, but they are actually really fun and can be played offline without using the Cupet.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed playing with Cup and we are considering getting another Cupet as they can interact and play together. Cupets are enjoyable and lots of fun!
