World Book Day: Little Book Day Parade & Bear and Hare Go Fishing
We love books and I’m so pleased little man likes reading and engaging with stories. It’s World Book Day, time to dress up as your favourite book character.
Word Book Day is today, 6th March 2014, with celebratory events and activities taking place across the globe. Little man is having a special week at school, on Tuesday parents were invited to read a story with their kids.
A few months ago, we reviewed Little Mouse’s Big Book of Beasts by Emily Gravett and little man really enjoyed it. Emma was chosen as one of the eight World Book Day authors this year.
Emily Gravett’s Little Book Parade (RRP £1 or with a special World Book Day token) is an activity book in which kids are asked to join in by getting their pens and pencils out to complete the characters’ outfits. The three little pigs want some nice long wings, and Matilda’s cat needs a lovely new hat.
When little man was little, he used to try to draw on books and I would tell him off, so he found quite exciting being able to draw and colour in Little Book Parade and get the characters ready for World Book Day.
His favourite was dressing up Hare as the Little Red Riding Hood, and colouring in Wolf’s gown. He decided that Wolf would also be dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood on World Book Day.
It’s a lovely little book, perfect to engage with young readers and get them excited about books and reading.
I was also sent another book by Emily Gravett, Bear and Hare Go Fishing (RRP £10.99), a tale of fun, friendship and fish, the first book in the new series.
Bear and Hare are the best of friends and they love to have fun together, but like any other friendship, things don’t always go according to plan. They are off on a fishing trip, with nets and rods at the ready. Bear loves fishing while Hare seems more interested in his picnic. But after a long wait, the two adventurers catch more than they expect in this tale of fun, friendship and fishy goings-on.
Bear and Hare Go Fishing is a beautifully illustrated book, full of warmth and humour, and starring two loveable new characters. I find the book really cute and little man likes it too, he can read it on its own and giggles while reading the story.
Happy World Book Day!
