Baking with Kids: Chocolate Egg Nests
Little man loves baking and helping in the kitchen, we were planning on making Easter eggs nest for Easter Sunday, but unfortunately he was ill with chickenpox. Now that he is back to his normal self, we are ready to have lots of fun in the kitchen.
I’ve previously shared our Top 5 Tips for Baking With Kids, and I have recently signed up to Cook with the Kids Promise, pledging to spend time baking and making mess with kids.
We made some Chocolate Egg Nests, perfect recipe to use up any leftover Easter eggs and chocolates you might have in the house after Easter.
Lynn Dixon, Chief Creative Chef, shared on Center Parcs blog a few suggestions to make edible Easter eggs nests, and our recipe was inspired by:
‘Mix some cereal, such as bran or broken up wheat, together with some melted chocolate and form the mixture in to nest-like shapes, leaving to cool for a finished nest’
Little man broke a white chocolate Easter egg into small pieces, then the chocolate was melted in the microwave for a couple of minutes, 30 seconds at the time, stirring thoroughly.
Once the white chocolate was melted, it was mixed with cornflakes, then spooned into cupcake cases and decorated with coloured mini chocolate eggs.
It was very enjoyable making chocolate egg nests with little man. They were made when he got home from school, and by the time we finished our dinner, we had some yummy chocolate treats for dessert.
Chocolate Egg Nests are simple and easy to make, perfect to introduce little ones to baking. They are popular at Easter, but can be enjoyed all year round. If you prefer, you can melt milk or dark chocolate and use different chocolate eggs or sweets to decorate.
We are looking forward to our next chocolate egg nests – still lots of Easter eggs left!
This is my entry to the Center Parcs and Tots 100 April challenge. If I’m chosen, I would like to visit Elveden Forest.
