National Pet Month: Top Tips for Travelling with Dogs
At the moment, we only have fish as a pet, but we are looking into getting a dog soon. I had a dog in Brazil and it was lovely growing up with a pet, taking our poodle for a walk and on holidays with us. Little man loves dogs, he is always cuddling dogs from our friends and family members.

National Pet Month is celebrated this year from 1st April to 5th May and the theme is ‘Celebrating Our Pets’. What a better way to celebrate it than by taking your pet on a holiday or short break?
Sometimes it can be difficult travelling with dogs, but planning the journey in advance is essential to make sure everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable time away.

Top Tips for Travelling with Dogs
Holidays Abroad:
If you are travelling with a pet in Europe, your dog will need a rabies vaccination 21 days before travelling, a microchip, a pet passport and tapeworm treatment. Your vet can issue a pet passport and also record the tapeworm treatment in the pet passport.
Prepare Your Dog:
A long journey can be tiring for everyone, including pets. It is important that dogs exercise before the journey and they are fed well in advance to avoid car sickness. Keep a bottle of fresh drinking water in the car for your dog and make sure your pet is safely restrained by using a car harness or a travel crate.
Dog-Friendly Locations:
It is essential to find pet-friendly locations to accommodate your family and your furry friend, so everyone can make the most of the holiday. Canvas Holidays offers self-catering accommodation in nine European campsites in France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Germany, Holland, Slovenia, Switzerland and Croatia.

Dogs are welcome when staying in a Maxi Tent, a 2-3 bedroom tent with a separate kitchen, which fits 5-6 people. A quick campsite search on Canvas Holidays showed that you could choose from 31 dog-friendly campsites.
I quite fancy camping in France and I would love to take a little dog with us. Perhaps I should start looking for a dog, then book a camping holiday for the whole family!
