Self-Portrait: Chickenpox Through Little Man’s Eyes

If you follow me on social media, you might have noticed that little man is all spotty at the moment. The whole story started as: When I was leaving to work on Friday morning, little man woke up, scratched the back of his head and said: ‘Mummy, I’ve got chickenpox, look (pointing at a spot on the back of his head), it’s itchy, I’ve got chickenpox’.

I then assured him that it was only a spot, the itch would go away and he didn’t have chickenpox. I went to work as normal and didn’t think anything about it.

Little man was fine all day on Friday, went to the circus with daddy and they both had a lovely boys’ day together. By Friday evening, he had fever and lots of red spots suddenty appeared all over his body. By then, I forgot what he said in the morning and thought it could be an allergy reaction as the spots appeared far too quickly.

The following morning, he woke up with fever and started complaining that his spots were itchy. I’ve noticed that more spots appeared on his body and when hubby took him to the pharmacy, it was confirmed that little man had chickenpox.

He is still very spotty and itchy, but luckily he doesn’t have fever anymore. This afternoon, he drew a picture of himself, a spotty boy behind open curtains. I thought I would share it as I found it so cute. Although little man has been poorly lately, he has been cheerful and you can see it from the big smile in the drawing – so sweet! He’s never added curtains to his drawing before, but perhaps it is because he’s been spending most of his time at home lately.

Do you remember when you had chickenpox? How was your children’s experience?
