Weetabix Ultimate Sports Day and Brunch with Tania Farah
I’ve lost count how many times I said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. In order to be ready for the busy day ahead, we always make sure we have a good breakfast before leaving the house.
You might have seen Weetabix new TV ad and noticed that London Olympics champion Mo Farah is the face of Weetabix’s Ultimate Sports Day campaign. I had the pleasure of meeting Tania Farah, wife of Mo Farah and mum to eight-year old Rhianna and twins Aisha and Amani, and learning more about the new campaign.
Weetabix has launched the Ultimate Sports Day campaign with the hope of encouraging children and parents across the UK to fuel future champions with Weetabix, and to inspire kids to get active by reigniting the passion for sport the nation felt during the 2012 Olympics.
Farah has joined forces with the nation’s favourite breakfast cereal to back a campaign that aims to encourage UK kids to get excited about exercise. Children are invited to design a unique and exciting obstacle they would like to see at their own sports day, with two winners then seeing their creations come to life at an exciting day of sport at the Olympic Park this summer.
On top of the Ultimate Sports Day, hundreds of kids across the UK are in with the chance to win a range of prizes, including sports equipment for their school and individual prizes such as top-of-the-range trainers.
During our brunch, Weetabix Nutritionist Sian Porter mentioned the importance of a nutritious breakfast and how to keep youngsters health. She also reminded us why Weetabix is a great breakfast, explaining it is a low fat, low sugar, high fibre, wholegrain food fortified with B vitamins (thiamin, niacin, riboflavin and folic acid) and iron.
Although it is not labelled low salt, two Weetabix contains only 0.25g salt which given a level teaspoon weighs 4g is 1/16th of a level teaspoon in two (or 1/32th for one) well within children’s recommendations. The amounts of sugar and salt added are the minimum needed for the recipe to keep the wholewheat flakes together in their iconic shape.
Adding a portion of fruit (fresh/dried/frozen/canned in juice) is great way to serve Weetabix and/or serve with one 150ml glass of pure fruit juice. The vitamin C in the fruit helps absorb iron from the Weetabix.
We already liked Weetabix for breakfast, but it was reassuring chatting to a nutritionist about the benefits of having Weetabix. The new Weetabix Ultimate Sport Day campaign sounds great too!
Thank you Weetabix for such an informative and tasty brunch, it was lovely meeting Tania and Sian!
