Cooking Fun with Kids’ Cookery School and BRITA

Little man loves spending time in the kitchen with us, creating delicious dishes. His favourite is baking cakes, we have previously shared our Top 5 Tips for Baking With Kids to make baking experience as enjoyable as possible.

During half term, we visited Kids’ Cookery School to learn more about their commitment to give children a unique and fun cooking experience. Little man took part in one of their classes where he made Herby Dough Balls and Mixed Pepper Frittata.

Little man really enjoyed his experience at the Kids’ Cookery School, he said the recipes were easy to follow and he had fun creating the dishes. During the interactive class aimed at kids from 3 to 5 years old, they put ingredients together, and made dishes on their own following the instructions from the chef.

They also talked about food, learnt the difference about fruit and vegetables, and whether they could be found below the ground, above the ground and on trees.

As you might have seen in recent news, cooking is back on the curriculum for 2014, but many schools don’t have the right facilities to teach children how to cook. The Kids’ Cookery School was set up in 2000 in response to cookery being off the curriculum.

I also had the opportunity to meet Fiona Hamilton-Fairley, the founder of The Kids’ Cookery School and chat about her passion for cooking and her aim to teach as many children as possible an essential cookery skills.

BRITA shares the Kids’ Cookery School’s passion for educating children and young people about healthy eating and drinking, and has donated £10,000 which will provide a year’s worth of ingredients for their mobile kitchen, KCS on Wheels, to teach disadvantaged kids how to cook.

In January, I undertook BRITA Boost Challenge to give up alcohol and keep hydrated with filtered water.Water is a core ingredient in cooking and with London being a notoriously hard water area it makes sense to reduce impurities like chlorine, limescale and heavy metals by using BRITA filtered water, resulting in the best tasting food and drink possible.

Little man had a great time at the Kids’ Cookery School and I was delighted to find out about the project educating children about the importance of a healthy diet and how to achieve it by cooking with fresh ingredients.

At the end of the class, little man brought home his delicious cooking creations, together with the recipes to recreate the dishes at home. He was very proud of his dishes, we all tried and found them very tasty too!

Little man attended Kids’ Cookery School free of charge, however the opinions expressed in this post are honest and my own.
