Scottish Book Trust Inspiring Readers and Writers

We love reading stories, we have a lovely collection of books at home. Little man was introduced to books when he was a baby, and every since, we share a few minutes each evening reading a bedtime story and talking about the book.

Little Man Reading

Reading a daily story book doesn’t take long, but it gets children excited about reading and interested in books. Now that little man is 5, he loves reading different stories and chatting about the characters. I truly believe that reading is extremely important and it should be part of everyone’s lives from a young age.

Scottish Book Trust, Scotland’s leading agency for the promotion of literature, reading and writing, plays an important role in spreading a love of reading and books by working with readers from all backgrounds, including writers, children, teachers and librarians.

On Scottish Book Trust website, you will find guidance on reading with book lists for all ages, writer development programme for training and funding, details on projects, events and resources for teachers and learning professionals.

I particularly like Bookbug for young families, with free book packs for pre-school children, and songs, rhyming and stories sessions. In my opinion, the more you read, the more you want to read, so starting from a young age is essential.

Scottish Friendly has been running Children’s Book Tour for several years to support the Book Trust. Book tours bring authors and illustrators together to a library, town hall or school. This year’s tour has started with award-winning author Jonathan Meres in January and James Carter in Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire last month. Children’s Laureate Malorie Blackman is touring nationally in May.

The touring programme Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour reaches around six thousands children each year in Scotland and in the UK. It is such a great initiative to inspire the love of reading, writing and illustration.
