Chocolate Coca-Cola Cake Recipe
When I first heard of Chocolate Cola Cake, I wasn’t sure what it would taste like. I asked my sister-in-law if she’s ever had it before, she mentioned she didn’t have a pleasant experience. However I am adventurous and enjoy trying new recipes, so I decided to give it a go. I love chocolate and coke, so surely the combination couldn’t go wrong…
Once the cake was ready, we were all pleasantly surprised how moist and tasty it was. Such a beautiful chocolate cake, we will definitely be making this recipe again soon!

For the cake
- 250g self-raising flour
- 300g golden caster sugar
- 3 heaped tbsp cocoa
- generous pinch bicarbonate of soda
- 250g butter
- 250ml Coca-Cola
- 125ml milk
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the topping
- 100g butter
- 2 tbsp Coca-Cola
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 200g icing sugar
Instructions
- Pre-heat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.
- Sift the dry ingredients, flour, sugar, cocoa and bicarbonate of soda into a bowl.
- Melt the butter and cola drink gently in a pan then add to the dry ingredients, together with the milk, eggs and vanilla.
- Mix gently but thoroughly and tip into a buttered, loose based cake tin (24cm/9½ in diameter).
- Bake for about 40 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean. Remove from the oven and leave for about 15 minutes while you make the topping.
For the topping
- Put the butter into a pan and melt slowly over low heat, do not let it boil or it could split.
- Once melted, add the cola drink and cocoa and mix.
- Pour the mixture onto the icing sugar, beat until smooth and pour over the cake while still warm.
- Cool the cake in the tin and remove from the tin once the topping has set.
