Lilinha Angel’s World Food & Drink – July 2014
Hope you are all enjoying the summer holidays and the beautiful weather – we love the gorgeous sunshine!
In July, we tried a selection of delicious food and refreshing drinks. As usual, we put them together in our monthly Lilinha Angel’s World Food & Drinks feature.
Lilinha Angel’s World Food & Drink: July 2014
In no particular order, those are the lovely products that we have tried and tested this month.
Nielsen-Masseys Extracts (£3.85) are great for baking and enhancing the flavour of recipes. Before I only knew about Nielsen-Masseys vanilla extract, I’ve used it several times and had great results every time.
I was pleased to discover the other flavours in the range: peppermint extract, orange blossom water, and almond extract. They are all-natural pure flavour extracts and waters, made with the world’s finest ingredients. As they are full of flavour, you simply need a little dash of the extracts to add lots of flavour to recipes. I will be sharing in the next few days a bread and butter pudding recipe using the vanilla extract – it was mouth-watering!
The weather is just perfect for some refreshing fun with Jubby Ice Lollies (RRP £1.25). They are ice lollies made with sugar and sweeteners, containing real fruit juice. They are very tasty, containing natural mineral water, colours and flavours, with no preservatives.
We have been trying a few different flavours, strawberry, coca, tropical, lemonade, cherry, blackcurrant and orange, and they were a success with our family. Our favourite flavours are blackcurrant, orange and strawberry. You simply need to freeze them at home, open or tear, then enjoy.
Birds Eye Inspirations range (RRP £4.00) offers a wide range of light summer dishes, such as Fish Chargrills and Cod Fillets with tomato and rosemary sauce. The succulent cod fillets are packaged in the bake perfect bag to gently infuse the fish with flavours of the delicious tomato, rosemary and olive oil sauce.
The meals are easy to make and delicious, making a light and healthy dinner option, perfect when you have been out all day in the sun, and need to feed the family in a few minutes.
PomeGreat by Simply Great (£1.50) is a delicious pomegranate juice drink, and also a source of pinitol, a natural plant compound that has been shown to improve Glyceamic control and maintain and support Glucose regulation; and improve blood-sugar and reduce the risk of diabetes.
PomeGreat is a tasty drink made with super fruits selected from the world’s finest varieties of pomegranate, uniquely blended for quality and great taste. It is a refreshing drink, perfect to be enjoyed chilled in a hot summer’s day!
a2 milk (RRP £1.99) is a cow’s milk naturally containing A2 protein, instead of A1 and A2 milk protein found on standard cow’s milk. It is not a modified milk, it is 100% natural fresh cow’s milk from selected British cows, which produce only A2 milk protein.
As a result, A2 milk is more suitable for those that have A1 milk protein intolerance, and might suffer from digestive issues when drinking milk. I feel bloated and uncomfortable when drinking cow’s milk, but I am pleased to say everything is fine when drinking a2 milk!
Genesis Crafty Scones (from RRP £1.79) are delicious scones produced by hand by the bakers from Genesis Crafty, a modern bakery and family business owned and run by six brothers.
We tried the traditional fruit scone, Mini Sultana Scones and Sultana Scones, rolled and cut by hand. They are deliciously made with local flour and butter, mixed sultanas. The sweet scones were lovely, but our favourite was Cheese Scones, made with local red cheddar, soft Irish butter, and locally milled flour. So full of flavour!
Genesis Crafty also makes pancakes (from RRP £1.39), available as plain big pancakes, and flavoured blueberry and chocolate chip pancakes. I enjoy making my own pancakes, but sometimes you just need a quick breakfast or snack.
Genesis Crafty pancakes are airy and fluffly, made with locally produced buttermilk and locally milled wheatflour, and also flipped by hand. They taste fresh and delicious!
New York Co Bakery Seeded Bagels (RRP £1.60) are tasty bagels with an authentic New York taste. They are low in fat and a source of fibre, containing a selection of seeds. They are filled with pumpkin, sunflower, linseed and bran, topped with linseed, poppy and millet seeds.
They are great as a light bagel lunch, but my favourite is seeded bagel breakfast with scrambled eggs, seasoned with freshly grounded pepper – so delicious!
Metcalfes Skinny Topcorn White Cheese (RRP £1.49) is the latest addition to the Topcorn family of tasty and light popcorn made with top quality ingredients.
The sharing bag has a generous amount of popcorn, perfect to be sharing with loved ones. We enjoyed a bag of Metcalfes Skinny Topcorn White while watching a movie, and loved the taste of the freshly popped butterfly popcorn, tumbled in a mild cheddar cheese flavour.
Hope you enjoyed our Food & Drink July 2014 feature!
