Tips for Taking Photos of your Pets
Your pets are just as part of the family as any other member, so of course it’s only natural to want to capture some great snaps of them. However, it’s not always as easy as that, is it? Pets can be unpredictable and trying to get the perfect photo can be tricky to say the least.
With that in mind, here are some handy tips that can help you get the perfect picture of your pets…
Consider what time you’re taking the photos
The time at which you take the photos can have a big effect on how successful they are. For example, if you’re arranging a photoshoot then it’s probably not the best idea to do it right over when it’s normally their feeding time as they may be irritable and unlikely to keep still. If you have a dog then this could also be apply to the time during which they would normally go for a walk.
Try and make them as comfortable as possible
If you go poking a camera at your pet then it might make them a little uncomfortable and uneasy and if that happens then your pet isn’t going to want to sit still for you and may even become aggressive or at the very least want to walk off. Try giving your pet some of its favourite toys or bedding or try bribing them with treats. After all, bribery is just another word for love!
Be careful when using a flash
It’s not particularly nice when a camera flash goes off in your face, is it? So when using a flash, spare a thought for your poor pets who have very sensitive eyes. Try to use it as little as possible, using natural light where you can. If you want to use a flash, try using an external flash which allows you to point the flash away from the subject and bounce it off the walls.
Be patient
This is one of the most important points when taking photos of your pets. It’s unlikely that you’ll get the perfect photo first time and it might well take a while for your pet to get used to having a camera pointed at it. However, take your time and take enough photos and you should get some decent shots.
Get a pro to do it
If that all sounds like a tremendous amount of hard work then you can always get a professional photographer to do it and take pretty much all the stress out of it. If you go for your pets portraits at Venture then the photographer will do most of the hard work for you and it also means that you can get in on the photos too rather than being behind the camera. Again try and make them feel as comfortable as possible by taking some of their favourite toys, treats or bedding.
