Beat Back to School Blues with the Boxtrolls!

We had a great summer, full of family adventures, days out and a relaxing family holiday in Sardinia. It’s mid-September, but somehow it feels that the summer holidays are long gone.

Just before little man went back to school, we were invited to the preview of The Boxtrolls, a lovely family animation by Universal Pictures.

The Boxtrolls tells the tale of a young boy’s adventure with the group of adorable, underground-dwelling monsters, the Boxtrolls. They hide in caves below the streets, and humans believe the Boxtrolls are dangerous and could harm them. Only Eggs, an orphan boy that the Boxtrolls raised as their own, knows that they are kind and loving.

Once the Boxtrolls are threatened, Eggs needs to come up from the sewers and out of his box to save his family and the town from the evil exterminator.

Little man and I really enjoyed watching the Boxtrolls, it reminded us that we shouldn’t be judgemental and we should always try to understand everyone’s situation.

Not only we loved the movie, we also had so much fun in the foyer before the movie started. We had a key ring made with our caricature, maybe you already spotted it in the first picture of this post. Little man really liked meeting the Boxtrolls!

He also created a Boxtroll paper bag, and really liked his caricature badge made on the day. We both recommend the Boxtrolls for grown-ups and kids, it is a beautifully made family animation. I’m sure it will beat any school holiday blues!

‘The Boxtrolls’ is based on Alan Snow’s book ‘Here Be Monsters!’ and is produced by Laika, the animation studio behind ‘Coraline’ and ‘ParaNorman’. It is now available in cinemas nationwide.

We were under no obligation to write this post, we just wanted to share our experience. The opinions expressed in this post are honest and my own.
