My Eyesight and Contact Lenses
I always thought I had perfect eyesight and could see everything perfectly, until I started taking driving lessons and found out that I was short-sighted and needed vision correction. As part of driving tests in Brazil, you need medical examination to check your wellbeing and eyesight.
I was only 17 years when I found out that I needed vision correction. At first, I was excited about wearing glasses, but soon I started forgetting them at home and losing them. When I moved to London at 18, I noticed that I was struggling to read signs and recognise faces from a distance.
I booked an appointment with an optician and was introduced to contact lenses. I was offered a trial to see how I got on, and loved seeing it all perfect again, without the need of wearing glasses. Ever since, I can’t imagine myself without my contact lenses, it is wonderful not having blurred vision, reading signs and recognising everyone from far away.
I am a big fan of eye make-up, and I love the fact that contact lenses don’t hide my eye make-up, like glasses used it. Contact lenses are very practical too, as they don’t interfere when playing sports or wearing 3D glasses at the cinema.
I’ve had a very positive experience with contact lenses so far, it is easy to wear and convenient. It can take a few days to get used to putting on and taking off, but it is great seeing clear without wearing glasses that get steamed up when entering warmer places or opening the oven.
I have been wearing contact lenses for over a decade, and it is one of the best things I found. I don’t need to worry about my eyesight anymore, I can just concentrate on finding beautiful eye shadows instead.
Although vision can be easily corrected, it can be very embarrassing not being able to see properly and making silly mistakes such as greeting the wrong person on the street. When I met the ACUVUE team at Britmums Live, I found out that children as young as 5 years old can wear contact lenses. It is great that young children can also benefit from wearing contact lenses and being able to concentrate at school.
I’m short-sighted, and I’ve had one too many accidents before wearing contact lenses in which I said hello to strangers thinking they were one of my friends. I am pleased to say that it has not happened since!
