Keeping Active with Leapband by Leapfrog

Although little man enjoys being active and spending time outdoors, sometimes he prefers to get cosy on the sofa with a book. He goes football training every week, and we encourage him to be active, but truth to be told, he is not very sporty.

Thinking about it, I wasn’t very sporty either as a child, I would prefer studying to playing outside. Little man is very similar to me, he is academic and loves learning, we were delighted to find out he is exceeding academically, he is two years ahead other 5 year old and has been added to the Gifted and Talented Register.

We all know the importance of physical activities for children, but did you know the daily recommended amount?

The NHS recommends that children should be physically active for at least 180 minutes (3 hours) daily, spread throughout the day. We were delighted to be sent a Leapband a few weeks ago, the first wearable activity tracker designed for children.

Leapband from Leapfrog is a cool new way for active play, recommended for children aged 4 to year years old. It has a high resolution colour screen and audio challenges. It is fit made fun, little ones can get moving through up to 50 fun activities, like jumping like a kangaroo, wiggling like a worm and leaping like a frog.

Little man really enjoys completing the challenges and gets motivated, as the more he moves, the more points he earns, unlocking more rewards. Instead of tracking steps, LeapBand accurately measures a child’s activity throughout the day.

He also enjoys looking after his virtual pets, by bathing and grooming them, and learning healthy habits by feeding healthy snacks to his pets.

As a parent, I love the fact that it has made active play much more enjoyable for little man by encouraging him to exercise with his virtual pets. It has rechargeable batteries, I just need to plug in the USB cable provided once the battery is low. It also functions as a watch, and it has parent’s controls, I can set school and quiet time modes.

Little man has been enjoying getting active with his Leapband, skipping, jumping and hoping. Now that it is getting colder and rainy, he’s been wearing his lovely Anorak by Next, waterproof with a hood. It is beautifully made, and it keeps him dry and cosy while he is spending time outdoors.

Leapband is available in green, pink, orange and blue, at major retailers nationwide at RRP £29.99 and on Amazon for £26.99
