Little Man is on the Gifted and Talented Register!
This evening we went to a parent’s evening at little man’s school. We were delighted to find out that his new school already spotted that he is well above average, and he has been added to the Gifted and Talented Register.
His teacher also mentioned that he has settled down really well in his new classroom, and she can’t believe he has only been there for a little over a week. She said he is already part of the school! Not only that, he was assessed this week and started receiving extra work three times a week.
I believe every child is unique and special in a different way. As a mum, I always thought little man was special, but a few months ago we started seeing a big difference between him and other 5 year old children.
When his old school started learning about countries during the World Cup, he became very interested in the countries and flags of the world, and ended up learning all 195 countries, 195 flags and 135 capitals. We were very surprised when we found out that he taught himself by looking at the globe and listening to songs on YouTube.
Besides his fascinating memory, his reading is very impressive too. He started reading everything he saw in front of him, signs on the road, stories and information books. He also started getting very interested in maths, and on Sunday he woke up doing the 9 times table on his own.
The meeting with his teacher this evening reinforced our thoughts that we have a very special child. He has only started Year 1 and he is already on level 2b/2c – which is the same as children are expected to achieve by the end of Year 2, according to government’s guidelines.
Basically little man is two academic years ahead, and as a mum, I have a big responsibility of keeping him motivated to carry on learning. I wonder what the future holds for our genius child!
Wish us luck!
