Top Tips to Make the Most of Daylight

It was a bit of a shock when summer time ended a couple of weeks ago. I don’t mind the cold as much, but I am still not used to the sudden shorter days once the clocks go back.

I know I have been in England for over a decade and should be used to it by now, but I need more than just nine hours of sunlight. This week, I noticed the sunrise was around 7:15am and sunset around 4:15pm.

Daylight is essential, as it regulates our biological clock, mood and well-being. According to a Swedish research, students in classrooms with good daylight had better performance, concentration and cooperation, when compared to students in classrooms without windows.

Unfortunately I barely get any sun during the day as I am at work. I am not alone as most of us usually spend up to 90% of our time inside building, whether we are working, studying, sleeping or playing.

Since we spend so long indoors, it is very important to create a healthy indoor climate with plenty of fresh air and daylight, in order to improve your sleep, state of mind and health in general.

A simple way of making the most of daylight and having brighter rooms is by installing roof windows with blackout blinds. Total blackout blinds, such as VELUX blinds, offers you full control of daylight and heat through functional, decorative and easy-to-install window accessories that respond to individual needs and preferences.

They can be added to bedrooms, living rooms, bathrooms, kitchens and even corridors. They are ideal for kids room as you can turn day into night with the blackout blinds, making sure little ones fully enjoy their daytime naps and sleep.

I would love to have some big roof windows in our new house, I’ve added roof windows with blackout blinds to my wishlist. They are a great way of providing a generous distribution of daylight, increasing the quality of your indoor climate and lowering your energy consumption at the same time.
