Healthy and Quick Sandwich Ideas
January is well known for healthy eating, following all the mince pies and Christmas pudding over the festive period. As you might have read on my new Getting Fit feature, I have started running and am now able to do a 5k run in less than half an hour.
Apart from being more active, I have also made small changes to my eating habits, I believe it is all about enjoying everything in moderation and swapping standard products for healthier options.
As an example, instead of sliced bread, I have been using Warburtons sandwich thins, deliciously soft bread available in white, brown, seeded and half & half.
Each thin is only 100 calories and they are great to make healthy and quick sandwiches. Warburtons has created a list of the Top Ten Food Trends in 2015, and the rise of creative sandwiches is one of them, using alternative bread bases with adventurous fillings.
One of the food trends is sweet and spicy flavour combinations, so I decided to add a drizzle of sweet chilli to the Hawaiian filling. I started by spreading sweet chilli on one thin, then added ham and pineapple. I love the combination of flavours and the contrast of sweet pineapple with the spicy from sweet chilli sauce.
I love Mexican flavours, so had to try a Mexican inspired flavour combination. I rubbed cajun spices on chicken breast, and topped with guacamole. The combination of flavours was delicious!
Since I tried Hawaiian and Mexican, I had to try another favourite cusine: Italian. My favourite Italian combination is mozzarella, tomato and basil. This sandwich is best enjoyed lightly grilled, so the mozzarella melts.
Warburtons sandwich thins are very tasty and perfect for healthy sandwiches. It can also be toasted and grilled. I tried toasted thins with peanut butter for breakfast and it was yummy. You can also make quick pizzas, by topping the thins with tomato sauce, ham, sweetcorn and grated cheese, then placing under the grill for a few minutes, until the cheese has melted. Yum!
What is your favourite sandwich flavour combination?
