Feasts on the Street: Creating Tasty Chinese Dishes on a Budget
By now you must have noticed that I love creating new dishes and experimenting with different flavours.
Last year, I was introduced to Asian cuisine in a cookery challenge with Hannah Hayes, in which I learnt to make a delicious egg fried rice with Amoy special selection soy sauce. I have since made the egg fried rice at home several times and it is one of our family’s favourite dish.
In the summer, I was challenged by Amoy to create a delicious BBQ using their sauces. We enjoyed chicken drumsticks marinated in Chinese BBQ sticky glaze, chicken marinated in peanut satay stir fry sauce, and prawns marinated in soy sauce and Cajun spices. It was delicious!
Amoy has launched a very interesting challenge, Feasts on the Street, hosted by Masterchef winner 2012, Shelina Permalloo. In Feasts on the Street, 3 teams of YouTube stars, bloggers and comedians have only 3 weeks to learn to make Chinese dishes to sell in the UK market. The winner of the challenge will be awarded a trip of a lifetime to Hong Kong.
The first part of the challenge is all about mastering the basics, the teams are challenged to create tasty Chinese street food on a budget. Each team is given only £5 to spend at Brixton market to purchase fresh produce for the best price, and combine with Amoy soy sauce, black bean sauce, stir fry sauce and noodles.
The first challenge is in Brixton village market, it is all about mastering the basics, each team was given £5 to buy the best fresh produce at the best price and combine with Amoy soy sauce, black bean sauce and noodles.
I must confess I was very impressed with the team’s creations, the dishes look very tasty and the teams proved that it is very affordable to create Chinese street food. I am tempted to try the Cantonese beef and black bean noodles at home, I am sure it will be a success with our family.
Check out the video below and find out what each team created!
I can’t wait to watch the next part of the challenge and to see which team wins! Which dish would you cook?
