National Picnic Week: Making the Most of Sunshine with a Family Picnic

We are pleased the weather is getting warmer and summer is finally on its way. We love sunny days and try to spend as much time outdoors as possible. It’s National Picnic Week, from 13th to 21st June and it’s the perfect excuse for a family picnic to make the most of the beautiful sunshine.

Our family picnic had a selection of tasty finger food, inspired by our Quick and Delicious Family Meals blog post.

We had Bernard Matthews mini turkey kievs with cherry tomatoes on a stick. The mini kievs are chopped and shaped turkey filled with a delicious cheese and garlic sauce, with added protein from cow’s milk, coated in breadcrumbs. They go really well with cherry tomatoes.

We also had Bernard Matthews Turkey Jetters, fun aeroplane turkey shapes, which little man loves just as much as the funky Dinosaurs. They were enjoyed with salsa, cucumber sticks and carrot sticks.

The jetters are made of 100% British turkey, with no added colours, flavours or preservatives, coated in wholemeal breadcrumbs. Simply delicious!

We are big fans of wraps, so we enjoyed Bernard Matthews sweet chilli turkey breast chunks with salad leaves. The cooked meat chunks are really easy to use, and perfect to add to picnic sandwiches and wraps.

Alternatively, you can use the turkey chunks to make a snack. We used Bernard Matthews roast turkey breast chunks to make pizzas, and they were a success with the whole family.

In order to make them, you simply need to spread tomato sauce in a round bread, such as muffins or burger buns, then add your favourite toppings and place it under the grill for a few minutes, until the cheese melts. We had turkey chunks, sweetcorn and cheese in our pizza.

The family picnic was very successful. I was pleasantly surprised that it took me less than half an hour to prepare all the food. First I placed the mini kievs and jetters in the oven, then I started preparing the pizzas and placed them under the grill.

While the food was cooking away, I had time to slice the vegetables and make the wraps. We then packed our favourite blanket, some drinks and headed to our favourite park for some delicious food and family fun.
