5 Rules For Cooking with Kids #CookingWithParents

Little man loves getting involved in the kitchen, he always asks if he can join in. He particularly enjoys baking cookies and making pancakes on weekends.

He started helping out before he turned 2, as soon as he learnt to walk, he would run to the kitchen and offer to help. Actually, my first ever post was about making family chores fun, written nearly 4 years ago. There is a picture of little man helping daddy in the kitchen!

I love cooking with my son, we make delicious treats together, however I must confess sometimes I feel I could have made it quicker on my own. Let’s not even mention the mess – there is so much flour everywhere after baking cookies!

Accordingly, to IKEA’s Life At Home Report, I am part of the  nine in ten parents that already involve their kids in the activities around food. As messy and lengthy as it may be, I am part of two of three parents that believe it is important to involve their children in the kitchen. 

If you don’t already let the kids in the kitchen, my advice would be to invite them in and start with small tasks, such as picking the toppings for homemade pizzas, baking flapjacks and decorating cupcakes.

Those recipes are easy to make and the smile on their faces once their creation is out of the oven is simply priceless. 

In order to bring back the kids into the kitchen, IKEA has launched a manifesto from children to parents “Cooking with Parents” detailing five rules to bring the fun back into cooking.
