Coding for Kids: #LightTheArch at Wembley Stadium with @EE

A few days ago, we had the chance to light up the iconic Wembley Arch using an innovative online coding tool from EE. The new web app Light the Arch, endorsed by education technology charity Apps for Good, is designed to help 7 to 11 year old to learn about the basic principles of coding.

Computing has been recently introduced in the national curriculum and children as young as five years old are expected to learn coding at school. The Light the Arch app uses coding to create a sequence of patterns and change colours for the Wembley Arch.

Little man really enjoyed trying the app and creating his own light show. I must confess hubby and I loved it too! It is simple and very easy to use. You can choose from a choice of 60 colours and eight configurable base patters to play with, such as clap, sweet, twinkle and rainbow, allowing you to create an almost infinite number of possibilities for their light show.

Rainbow pattern is little man’s favourite light effect, simply beautiful and colourful. Not only can children create their patters, they also have the option of changing the length and speed of each pattern and choose their moment to light up the arch, including ‘welcome to Wembley’, ‘goal scored’ and ‘red card’.

Once you’ve created your light show online, you can share your video with family and friends. We enjoyed watching our video online!

We had a fantastic time at Wembley, learning more about Light the Arch and trying the app. We even had the opportunity to go on a tour of the Wembley Stadium and find out more about what happen behind the scenes.

I am not sure who was more excited about the tour, little man or hubby! They have both been to matches at Wembley and really enjoyed walking in the changing rooms where their favourite footballers have been!

After the tour, we watched our light show live on the arch. What a beautiful show!

Not only Light the Arch is fun, the app also offers a great opportunity for parents to introduce children to coding. Watching our light show was fantastic, the whole family enjoyed it!
