Saying Goodbye to Stress and Hello to the Joy of Cooking
When you look at this picture, what do you see?
We always want our pictures to look the best that they can be, but they don’t really tell the story behind the picture.
I bet you didn’t know that little man really wanted to have some of the blackberry ice cream while I was taking the photo, so I had to hurry up and get it done quickly, before he helped himself to it!
Remember the days when we used to have a meal without worrying about taking a picture from every single angle and sharing it in our social media channels?
I can, it’s been a long time, but I remember!
Around four years ago, before I started blogging, I used to create dishes and enjoy them with my family just for fun. There was no pressure about making sure that the meal looked good on the plate, that nobody touched the food before the photo was taken, that there was enough light in the room.
Although I love blogging and creating recipes, I must confess I miss the freedom that we had and I love the idea of IKEA’s new film, named ‘Let’s Relax’. It aims to starts conversations about the expectations that make our lives unnecessarily demanding, while helping people to say ‘goodbye’ to stress and ‘hello’ to the joy of cooking, eating and being together.
Nowadays, there is so much pressure from cookbooks, TV programmes, magazines, lifestyle blogs and social media channels. I just had a quick look at my Instagram feed and it seems that everyone had a perfect day! There were kids playing in the garden, others were crafting indoors, mums were making home cooked meals, families enjoyed beautifully crafted dishes and stunning views.
It is impossible to compete with such perfection. According to the IKEA Life at Home Report, people want to go back to being themselves at home, like it used to be. IKEA understands that nobody is perfect so we should just relax and enjoy spending time with each other, bringing back the joy of cooking and eating.
