What to do in London this weekend: Peculiar Happenings at Ripley’s Believe it or Not!

The weekend is nearly here and what a better way to enjoy it than to have a fun-filled family day out. According to the weather forecast, it will rain this weekend.

However the rain doesn’t need to stop the fun as you can hide away at Ripley’s Believe it or Not – the house to over 700 authentic artefacts, exhibits and incredible interactive experiences across six floors.

It was our second visit to Ripley’s and we loved seeing again the five floors of unbelievable artefacts. You can find life-size models of the heaviest and tallest men, art made from sweets, books , cassette tapes, toast and much more.

Until Sunday 5th March, there is even more to see and enjoy at Ripley’s. You can explore an interesting collection of costumes, facts and props from the film Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Tim Burton’s fantasy movie is now available on digital HD, blu-ray and DVD.

Ripley’s Believe it or not is a very peculiar place with peculiar items, so it was very fitting to have Miss Peregrine’s items displayed there, such as the Twin’s Teddy Bear.  The teddy bear that belonged to the twins, which Miss Peregrine pulled in half.

Miss Peregrine is the protector of a group of peculiar children. She is an ymbryne, a peculiar that can transform into a bird, and manipulate time by creating a ‘loop’. This is the same 24 hour period she and the children live within without ageing. It protects them from people who wouldn’t understand their abilities and hides them from their enemies, The Hollows.

You will also find Run Rabbit Run Record. Miss Peregrine plays this record as she resets the time loop.

At the exhibition, you will find outfits worn by the movie stars, such as a dress for Miss Peregrine, played by Eva Green. Another character from the movie is Claire, a young peculiar who by all appearances is normal – expect for the razor sharp teeth on the back of her head. At Ripley’s, you will be able to see her dress and the back of her head.

We enjoyed seeing the Twins’ costume. The twins are the most enigmatic of the Peculiars. The Twins masks that obscure their faces. They are speechless and only show their ability during the films epic climax.

There is also the new ‘Peculiar Explorer Tail’ featuring ‘peculiar’ themed questions which spell a mystery word. The prize for the trail is fantastic, you can win an unforgettable trip to Amsterdam, which include flights, accommodation, a stay in a Peculiar hotel and entry to Ripley’s Amsterdam.
