Authentic Flavours from Napoli at Family-Friendly Restaurant Rossopomodoro
As a family, we love going out together and enjoying a nice family meal. We are big fans of Italian food, especially after our family holiday to Italy.
Little man was invited to a children’s pizza masterclass at Rossopomodoro a couple of years ago and had a fantastic experience. As we loved it so much, we couldn’t wait to visit it again!
Rossopomodoro is known for bringing the best of Napoli outside Napoli. Chefs from Neapolitan pizzaioli families make Neapolitan dishes using ingredients sourced only from the Napoli region. You can definitely tell by the depth of flavours and incredible taste of their dishes.
The new Spring Summer menu has just launched, featuring new seasonal flavours from Napoli. While we were at the Covent Garden branch, the pizzaiolo explained how the new multigrain dough was made with a mix of five cereals: wheat, flax, rye, barley and sesame. It takes 24 hours for the dough to mature, making the pizza light, soft and digestible.
For starters, you will be spoilt by choice. Whether you prefer mozzarella, bruschetta, polpette or street food of Naples, you will certainly find a dish to enjoy!
We were keen to try the street food but didn’t know which one we should go for as they all sounded so delicious. Luckily you can order a Tiella for two, which is a selection of arancini, crocche, mozzarella panata, frittatine and montanare.
Each dish was beautifully seasoned, I can’t even say which one I liked the most as they all tasted so good. The Arancini rice balls with tomato, mozzarella, beef, peas and basil were served on a bed of tomato sauce, while the smoked mozzarella and potato crocche were served on a bed of pecorino cheese sauce.
The breaded mozzarella was served with anchovy dipping sauce, while the bucatini pasta croquete with béchamel, green peas and mozzarella was served with basil mayonnaise. Hubby really liked the fried pizza dough balls topped with tomato sauce, fresh basil and parmesan cheese.
For main course, hubby tried gnocchi corbarini e provola. His potato gnocchi with Corbara cherry tomatoes, smoked mozzarella, parmesan and basil was cooked to perfection!
I loved my oval gourmet pizza. Again, I couldn’t pick just one flavour, so I went for Fru Fru Drop, featuring three delicious flavours:
- smoked mozzarella, ricotta and Neapolitan salami
- Mozzarella, yellow Datterini tomatoes from Battipaglia and spicy spianata salami
- smoked mozzarella Neapolitan sausage and friarielli (which is Neapolitan broccoli)
The combination of flavours was incredible, I thoroughly enjoyed each mouthful!
To finish off our meal, we had Brioche al Gelato, homemade buffalo milk ice cream stuffed in a warm brioche. You can choose your own choice of topping, hubby tried hazelnuts and crunchy chocolate sauce while I went for red fruits and white chocolate.
When the desserts arrived, we couldn’t believe the size of it. Like the other courses, the portion was very generous. In our next visit, we will be ordering one dessert to share between us.
Kids Menu
The kids menu offers a wide range of dishes for young diners. They can choose a two course meal or three course meal.
For starters, little man went for Pallina, deep-fried pizza dough balls flavoured with basil pesto, garlic and parmesan cheese. He loved his dough balls so much that he asked to have more!
His friend went for Panatina, deep-fried breadcrumb mozzarella served with tomato sauce. He really enjoyed it.
For main course, the boys went for Margheritina Pizzetta, a small margherita pizza. Little ones can add a topping of their choice: ham, black olives or mushrooms. Little man chose ham while his friend preferred to have it as it is.
Young diners can also order penne pasta served with butter or tomato sauce and parmesan, spaghetti with Bolognese sauce and deep-fried breadcrumb chicken filled served with homemade potato wedges.
After their main course, they had ice cream. They could choose from vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, hazelnuts and buffalo milk.
Overall, we have thoroughly enjoyed our mouth-watering meal in a great family-friendly atmosphere. Our waiter William was very polite and helpful, guiding us through the new Spring Summer menu, while the manager Lia was very attentive throughout our meal.
A massive thank you to the team at Covent Garden for looking after us. We absolutely loved our genuine Neapolitan experience outside Napoli at Rossopomodoro and will be returning soon!
