Free Family Activities in Newham with Coca Cola ParkLives
The weather is finally warming up. We are making the most of the bright, warm days by spending as much time outdoors as we can.
During half-term, we had the opportunity to visit Newham and try one of the free family activities, as part of the ParkLives spring/ summer programme, which started on the 22nd April and will run until 30th July. A new summer programme will then run until October.
Coca Cola ParkLives is a nationwide initiative that encourages families, just like ourselves, to make the most of the great outdoors by taking part in activities in their local parks. Not only are the daily activities enjoyable and suitable for the whole family, they are completely free of charge.
There is something for everyone:
- Social walks for all abilities and ages
- Walk and talk for all ages and abilities, buggies and strollers
- Plashet run club suitable for everyone
- Meet and greet farm animals for everyone
- Family tennis suitable for all ages
- Multi-sports, handball, ultimate Frisbee, dodgeball and basketball suitable for over 12s
- Rounders for over 14s
- Outdoor Yoga for over 14s
- Yoga on the move for over 18s
As little man is starting his tennis lessons this month, we wanted to try the Family Tennis session, which runs on Tuesdays from 5pm to 6pm, at Hermit Road.
It’s great that it is suitable for all ages, so everyone can join in. As soon as the qualified coaches arrived at the park, the children run from the playground and couldn’t wait to get started.
It was lovely to see how the coaches adapted their activities to suit the level and ability of each child. At the beginning of the session, the children were playing games to develop their coordination, then they started playing tennis with the support of the coaches.
As it was a family tennis session, hubby and I were encouraged to play too and we also had a fantastic time!
We have thoroughly enjoyed our experience in Newham with Coca Cola Parklives. It is wonderful that families in the area have so many activities by their doorstep and can make the most of the sunshine. Fingers crossed the initiative will be expanded to North London too as we would love to have the same by our house!
Which activity would you like to try?
