How to Write a Novel in 60 Minutes with @PizzaExpress #ShareAStory and Competition to Win a Family Meal

We love reading and we love pizza, so we were delighted to find out that PizzaExpress is the official sponsor of World Book Day 2018.

Over half-term, we have attended a creative writing workshop “How to write a novel in 60 minutes” in order to celebrate this year’s partnership. Nowadays, children can easily spend a lot of time using electronics and technology, so we are always looking for ways to develop little man’s creative side, through music, arts and writing.

In order to encourage children to get creative and share a story, PizzaExpress teamed up with Scribblers HQ to launch creative writing workshops throughout March, for children aged 7 to 12, in Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester and Leeds.

When little man arrived at the workshop, he was a bit dubious that he would be able to write in such a short space of time. I must say I wasn’t convinced either as I am aware that it can take several weeks and months to write a good story.

At the start of the workshop, the children analysed the structure of a popular story and started thinking about the main elements of a story, such as characters and plot. The purpose of the workshop is to inspire children so they can get started on their story and be inspired to carry on when they get home, if needed.

Shortly after, the children put their heads down and started writing their masterpieces. I must say I was very impressed with the amount of writing that little man produced in such a short period of time. In one hour, he managed to write three chapters and his story had a clear plot. The creative writing workshop has definitely inspired little man to keep writing and share a story.

In case you are not able to attend one of the workshops, you can still join in the fun by visiting PizzaExpress. If you have been to one of the restaurants lately, you will have noticed the special edition of the Dough Ball Times activity pack, available until the 25th March, featuring fun facts, games, World Book Day token that can exchanged for a book and a very special competition.

Children are encouraged to design their World Book Day Dough Ball bookmark for a chance to win a year’s supply of books. For more information, please check: https://www.pizzaexpress.com/worldbookday.
