Family Holiday in Del Garda Village and Camping with Al Fresco Holidays

We love family holidays and there is nothing that we treasure more than spending time together. Being an international family, we travel abroad frequently to visit our relatives in Brazil and Cyprus.

We were delighted when Al Fresco Holidays invited us to visit one of their campsites in Peschiera in Lake Garda as it’s been five years since we were in Italy.

Usually, we travel over the summer holidays and spend half-terms in the UK, so it was a lovely treat to travel abroad for May half-term. At first, we didn’t know what to expect as we had never been to a camping holiday before.

Al Fresco Holidays offers great value self-catering holidays on parks in Italy, France, Spain, Holland, Croatia and Austria, all easily accessible from the UK. The accommodation is in family-friendly, stylish mobile homes which include a decking area so you can make the most of the outdoors.

What to pack for a camping holiday

Before going away, it is essential to check what is available at your destination. In our case, we had the family bed linen and towels pack, baby pack with a cot, highchair and bath, cot linen pack, beach towels pack and air conditioning included in our booking.

It was very handy not having to take bedding and towels, so we could concentrate on packing essentials for our holiday, such as clothes, swimming costumes and toiletries. As the weather wasn’t particularly hot in May, we didn’t need to use the air conditioning, but I Imagine how handy it would be in the summer.

Del Garda Village and Camping

Del Garda Village and Camping is located near Lake Garda in Italy, a few minutes from Peschiera, with a range of facilities onsite, such as restaurant, shop, laundrette and playground areas with swings climbing frames and slides.

As soon as we arrived, we collected our bracelets at the reception and were given a map of the site. There is a restaurant with a delicious selection of pizzas and pasta, you can also order a takeaway pizza if you prefer to eat it in your mobile home.

Toscanini Lounge Mobile Home

We stayed in the Toscanini Lounge Mobile Home with sleeps 6 people, with one double bedroom and 2 twin bedrooms. The extended decking with a table and chairs was our favourite place to eat our meals, while appreciating the peaceful scenery.

There was also a lovely living area with a long table and chairs and a cosy sofa. As the weather wasn’t great at the beginning of our holiday, we spent some time in the living room.

The kitchen has everything that you need to make a delicious family meal, so it is just like home away from home. There is also a separate toilet and shower room, which is handy for larger families.

Entertainment

Del Garda Village and Camping has a range of family friendly facilities, such as two swimming pools for older children and one kids’ pool with slides for younger children, sun beds, football and tennis courts, table tennis, volleyball, basketball and gym. There is definitely something for everyone!

The animation team was full of energy and provided a great variety of activities, such as children’s disco, aqua gym, evening shows, karaoke, sports tournament, talent competitions and theme nights.

Eating in Del Garda

As you may have seen in our Instagram stories, we enjoyed lovely meals while we were away. We went out for a meal at the restaurant onsite and also visited the restaurants nearby to try authentic Italian pizzas and pastas.

My personal favourite is the half frutti di mare and half quattro formaggi pizza from Ristoranti e Pizzeria Le Magnolie, a few minutes walk from the campsite.

One of the benefits of a self-catering holiday is being able to make simple and delicious meals whenever you want. Since a fully equipped kitchen and charcoal BBQ were available, we made the most of the facilities in our mobile home and enjoyed our meals in the outdoor decking area.

We visited the local supermarket, a short walk from the camping site, to stock up on local produce. One of our best finds is the frozen mushroom, which is perfect for pea and mushroom risotto, with a sprinkle grana padano, accompanied by garlic and rosemary chicken.

Eating in the decking area and visiting Peschiera have been one of the highlights of our holidays. The local produce was full of flavours, including meat, vegetables and cheese.

Peschiera and Lake Garda

Peschiera is a beautiful town, perfect for a relaxing holiday. The peaceful Lake Garda is the biggest lake in Italy and it makes for a naturally stunning setting.

We enjoyed walking along Lake Garda and appreciating the natural beauty. It was definitely very relaxing and made us forget any worries.

There is so much to do in Lake Garda and Peschiera. It is full of activities for the whole family, including the popular amusement park Gardaland. We all want to go back to Lake Garda when the weather is better so we can visit Gardaland.

If you also want to spend a week in Del Garda Village and Camping, there are some great early booking offers for holidays next year if you book by 7th November 2019.
